Optical fibres and cables
Development and introduction of wide band services require high
transmitting speeds as well as more efficient transmission modes.
This demand is best served by optical fibres representing an optimal
transmission method due to high transmission capacity. Apart from
this characteristic, optical fibres provide a variety of advantages
like low attenuation, insensitivity to electronic interferences,
small weight and volume.
Fotona d.d. has drawn it`s first optical fibre in 1982 and began
optical fibre cabling in 1987. The first commercial project was the
1984 Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo where several transmission
systems for the studio quality audio and video signals were deployed.
Fotona`s optical fibres are made by MCVD method and are in accordance
with EN 188000 standards and have internationally comparable
transmission characteristics. Fotona is the only optical fibres
producer in Slovenia and in surroundings. It is our utter importance
that technology and products result from our own development and
knowledge, so we can proudly mark them .
